Former Umno senator wants Latheefa to resign over release of recordings

The Umno politician says she has tainted the image and credibility of the MACC.

MACC chief Latheefa Koya at the press conference on Wednesday to release audio recordings allegedly linked to 1MDB and SRC International.
PETALING JAYA:
An Umno politician, who was recently named by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as being involved in a conspiracy to manipulate information related to 1MDB’s dealings, has demanded its chief commissioner’s resignation.

Khairul Azwan Harun also wants action to be taken against Latheefa Koya for allegedly tainting the anti-graft agency’s image and credibility.

In denying he had anything to do with 1MDB and SRC International, Khairul labelled Latheefa’s decision to play the audio clips at a press conference as a cheap political stunt.

As a former lawyer, he said Latheefa should realise that her actions went against the “rule of law”.

“It also humiliates me and tarnishes my reputation,” the former senator said in a statement.

On Wednesday, MACC released nine audio clips purportedly featuring Najib, his wife Rosmah Mansor, ex-MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad as well as the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Zayed Al Nahyan, in discussions over dealings linked to 1MDB and SRC International.

The clips have since been handed over to the police for investigation.

Apart from Khairul, others from Umno named by MACC were former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali and Baling MP Abdul Azeez Rahim.

Khairul, better known as Azwanbro, went on to say that the decision to release the audio clips was “disgusting and shallow” and that even the Malaysian Bar has disagreed with it.

“I urge Latheefa to resign as MACC chief commissioner and for all MPs to refer her to a parliamentary special select committee,” he said.
