7 men nabbed over violent restaurant brawl in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU:
Police have arrested seven men over a violent restaurant brawl in Tawau on the east coast, in which four suffered slash wounds.

A video clip of the fight, lasting 1min 48 sec, posted online shows a group of men running towards the restaurant, shouting at another group.

It was learned the incident took place at Jalan Chen Fook at about 11pm.

A brawl ensued but policemen on duty at the area captured seven of those involved, aged between 24 and 31.

Several of them had tried to escape in their vehicles but were later caught by the police.

Tawau police chief Peter Umbuas, confirming the incident, said four suspects sustained slash wounds on the arms, shoulders and head, adding some fingers were also cut off.

“We also seized two keris, a parang and a samurai sword,” he said, when contacted.

He said police are still establishing the motive for the fight.
