PETALING JAYA: The education ministry said today the students who sang the national anthem in Mandarin did so as part of a lesson to make them better understand the Negara Ku.
A video of them singing the anthem has since gone viral.
Education director-general Amin Senin also said that based on its probe, the Mandarin version of the Negara Ku was not sung during an official function.
It reminded schools to be more discerning when carrying out lessons revolving around the national anthem in classrooms to avoid any misconceptions.
Amin, in a statement, also reminded schools that they could not amend the national anthem in any way at official functions as this will go against the National Anthem Act 1968.
Earlier today, police said they would probe the incident, which occurred last year at a school in Seremban.
The one-minute-23-second video was allegedly recorded on Sept 26 last year.
