Come for congress, Wan Azizah urges PKR Youth leaders

This follows a statement by PKR Youth deputy chief Hilman Idham that the party must guarantee safety of delegates after a series of melees at today's youth wing congress.

PKR adviser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail blames ‘agent provocateurs’ for the melee at Youth congress.
AYER KEROH:
PKR adviser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has urged PKR Youth deputy chief Muhammad Hilman Idham and other youth leaders to attend the party’s congress tomorrow.

Earlier today, Hilman and a number of other youth leaders called on the party to guarantee their safety following a series of melees at today’s youth wing congress, which saw two factions trading punches.

Hilman had said they will only attend the remainder of the congress if the party’s top leadership could guarantee their safety.

“If (they) don’t want to come, they won’t. But do come. This is our congress and they are delegates. They are welcome to come.”

On why a picture of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali discussing issues didn’t result in peace trickling down to the grassroots, Wan Azizah said it seemed that there were a lot of agent provocateurs, although she did not want to accuse anyone.

On the constant infighting in the party, which she had lamented about in her speech when wrapping up the Youth and Wanita congress, Wan Azizah put this down to the party’s “dynamics”.

“Any party will have its own dynamics. If it is a dead party, it’ll be boring.”

In her speech, Wan Azizah said the party had seen its fair share of infighting since its inception.

She said during last year’s party elections, the campaigning was more intense than even for the general election.

“But we cannot live forever in conflict,” she said, adding that there was a need to work together for the people.

“Stop fighting among ourselves because it doesn’t benefit anyone.”
