
Its chief, Taqiuddin Cheman, said the Umno president’s remarks at a ceramah on Wednesday, when campaigning for the Tanjung Piai by-election, could cause tension and affect the integrity of the judiciary.
“He questioned the court’s decision, saying the woman was released as if there was no evidence involved.
“This is despite the fact that the magistrate who handled the case explained her reasons for doing so,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Pontian police station here.
Last month, the Magistrate’s Court in Johor Bahru acquitted and discharged sales promoter Sam Ke Ting, who had been charged with reckless driving and causing a road accident in 2017 which saw eight teenage cyclists killed.
Sam, 24, was acquitted without her defence being called as the magistrate said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.
At the ceramah in Kampung Rimba Terjun, Zahid, was reported as saying that the government had practised double standards in the matter.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, of the DAP, had said Zahid should be charged with contempt of court.
