KUALA LUMPUR:
Najib Razak has again called in sick today, forcing his corruption trial to be adjourned.

The former prime minister’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah today showed pictures of his client’s swollen eyes caused by an allergy.

Shafee said he hoped the pictures which were given to the defence, prosecution and judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah would not be leaked.

“I hope it would not go to the Internet for Halloween purposes,” he quipped.

Shafee said Najib was seeking treatment at an eye specialist centre.

“My client apologises profusely to the court and the prosecution team. He said there was swelling in both of his eyes and he complained it was painful.

“His doctor suspects it is not conjunctivitis. He is allergic to certain things and needs to be investigated,” he said.

On Sept 11, the trial was adjourned after Najib was down with conjunctivitis.

Najib is facing 25 counts of money laundering and abuse of power charges over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion.

Meanwhile, ad hoc prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram told the court that the prosecution needed three weeks to reply to Najib’s application to obtain documents given to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib later told reporters that the prosecution will be objecting to Najib’s application.
