
“I’m not worried about the sum set aside. I am just concerned with what they want to do with it,” he told reporters outside Parliament.
The Sembrong MP also expressed concern that the government had yet to table the Defence White Paper, which will among others outline the armed forces’ direction and strategies, as well as on matters of funding and manpower.
Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, he said, had promised in January to table the white paper in July.
Mohamad had earlier this month said that the document, which charts out a 10-year plan for the country’s defence, will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in early December.
“I want to tell the defence minister that terrorists and the country’s safety will not wait for his white paper.”
Earlier today, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng revealed that the defence ministry was allocated RM15.6 billion, an increase from the RM13.9 billion in 2019.
