SITIAWAN:
A new section of the West Coast Expressway from Kampung Lekir, Sitiawan, to Beruas, both in Perak, will be opened to road users starting tonight.

Works Ministry secretary-general Syed Omar Sharifuddin Syed Ikhsan said the 45-kilometre stretch, built at a cost of RM917 million, could save travelling time by 30 minutes to Beruas town.

“It is a shortcut for residents around Teluk Intan, Kampung Lekir in Sitiawan, Beruas and Seri Iskandar,” he said when opening Section 9 and 10 of the highway in a short ceremony at Kampung Lekir toll plaza today.

Syed Omar said there were five intersections at Kampung Lekir, Sitiawan, Sitiawan North, Changkat Chermin and Beruas. No toll would be charged until the government decides on the toll policy for the expressway.

A previous section, from Hutan Melintang to Teluk Intan, was opened on May 31.
