
Perak deputy police chief Lim Hong Shuan said the man was detained after the temple’s management lodged a police report at 1.50am that 15 statues of deities there had been desecrated.
He said based on a tip-off from the public, the man was apprehended at 4.15am by police with the cooperation of local residents.
“Police also seized a spanner believed to have been used by the suspect (to desecrate the statues),” he said in a statement here.
He added that investigations were ongoing and requested members of the public not to speculate on the case.
