Police probe sexual harassment complaint against doctor

A rape victim seeking treatment for trauma said the doctor made sexual advances by sending chat messages and pornographic images.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Police are investigating a patient’s complaint that she had been sexually harassed by a consultant psychiatrist at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Mohd Zani Che Din said police have yet to arrest the man, who is alleged to have made sexual advances on his patient, who is a rape victim.

He is alleged to have sent messages and pornographic images via a chat application.

The woman, who had sought treatment for psychological trauma, claimed she had been sexually harassed since early last month.

Mohd Zani confirmed that police had received the report . “The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person,” he said.

It was reported yesterday that Thomson Hospital in Kota Damansara suspended the services of the psychiatrist on July 6 pending an internal inquiry following a complaint from the patient.

After the inquiry was conducted, the management decided to terminate the psychiatrist’s services effective July 15 according to media reports.
