KUALA LUMPUR:
Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof says Bahrain has expressed an interest in importing Proton’s X70 SUV.

He said this was revealed to him during his recent official visit to the country, and that he had conveyed Bahrain’s interest to Proton Holdings Bhd.

Proton recently revealed that Thailand and Indonesia are likely to be among the first export destinations for the X70.

Speaking to reporters after launching Koperasi Harapan Bhd at the Royal Selangor Club here, Redzuan also said that any decision on the third national car project is in the hands of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Signs of this being a private initiative are already very clear. By 2020, we should have a prototype ready,” he said.

Earlier this year, Redzuan was reported as saying that two car manufacturers have been shortlisted for the third national car project.

He said several aspects are still under consideration and that no further details could be revealed at the time.
