Marzuki Mohamad, Muhyiddin’s special functions officer at the Ministry of Home Affairs, said it was Muhyiddin’s close contact with the palace that ensured Dr Sahruddin Jamal’s appointment.
He also denied speculation that Sahruddin’s name was presented to the palace by Osman.
He said Sahruddin’s name was nominated by Muhyiddin in a letter to the palace on April 13, after having discussed it with PPBM chairman and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“The letter was delivered to the Sultan of Johor through the state secretary. The nomination of Dr Sahruddin for the MB’s post received the consent of the Johor Sultan,” said Marzuki.
He said the decision to appoint Sahruddin was also discussed with state Pakatan Harapan leaders including assemblymen, MPs and PPBM division leaders.
“Muhyiddin is among the leaders who played a major role in the transition process. As the de facto leader of the Johor PH, he was entrusted with handling the state power transition,” he said.
