KUALA LUMPUR:
The government’s taskforce to gather views on giving recognition to the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) will announce its latest latest findings tomorrow, said Education Minister Maszlee Malik.

The taskforce, led by sociologist Eddin Khoo, also includes Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) president Raimi Abdul Rahim and Chinese education group Dong Zong deputy president Tan Yew Sing.

Maszlee said the taskforce would present its report tomorrow.

“We will reintroduce them (taskforce members) again as some may not be aware of their existence despite their engagements with the media.

“They will keep you updated on their latest findings. It is very interesting,” he added.

The Ministry of Education set up the UEC taskforce to gather feedback before presenting it to the Cabinet.

Recognition for the UEC, a standardised test for Chinese independent schools, is among the promises in Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto.

UEC is currently not recognised as an entry qualification to public universities and federal public services.
