KUALA LUMPUR:
Annuar Musa (BN-Ketereh) today claimed the existence of historical documents in the government’s keep which state that communists had supported DAP during the 1969 race riots.

Saying the documents were with the home ministry, the Umno secretary-general told the Dewan Rakyat that the communists had also backed the People’s Action Party when it led Singapore out of the Malaysian federation.

He was replying to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof, who asked him to retract a statement linking DAP leaders to communism.

Annuar denied making the claim and Ariff said he would study the Hansard before making a decision tomorrow.

“I never said that DAP is a communist party or that its leaders are influenced by communists. It is up to DAP to build its own defence,” he said.

Several DAP MPs had questioned Annuar and accused him of dividing Malaysians based on race and religion.

But Annuar responded by saying Muslim-majority Malaysia has looked after people of all races and religions well, adding that this was not the case with Muslim minorities in Myanmar and China.

He also hit back at DAP leaders who questioned Umno’s commitment to multiracialism in its alliance with PAS.
