Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) information chief Chin Vui Kai said the Warisan and Pakatan Harapan governments had also failed to deliver the promise of improving the transport system in the state if they were elected.

“But what we see now after being in power for nearly 10 months, is nothing. How come the government couldn’t come up with a long-term plan for the entire Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road network?

“If the reason is insufficient funds, then the Sabah government should pursue reclaiming 40% net tax revenue and 20% oil royalty,” he said here today.

Chin also recalled that Chief Minister Shafie Apdal had vowed last October that the government was confident of extending the existing Kota Kinabalu-Tenom railway line to Kudat in the next three years.

“Until now, nothing can be seen happening. While the federal government is still deciding on the destiny of the high-speed rail, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), and the crooked bridge (to Singapore) in the peninsula, Sabah is lagging behind with a languishing transportation system.

“Is our common wish to enjoy roads on par with the peninsula still an elusive dream? Is this the hope PH has given Sabah voters?” he asked.

Chin said road infrastructure in Sabah was bad, adding: “We are looking at the pathetic conditions of many major roads in Sabah which are full of potholes, damaged and in dire need of repairs.

“These are causes of expenses for road users who have to pay for frequent repair to vehicles due to the extreme and bumpy roads common in the state.”
