PETALING JAYA:
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has assured the public that healthcare will not be affected by the government’s rebranding of 1Malaysia clinics, following concerns from an MP over the closure of the affordable clinics in his constituency.

Dzulkefly said residents in Subang can still seek treatment from the government health clinic in Taman Medan, situated within a 3km radius from a 1Malaysia clinic in Subang Jaya which has since been shut down.

“For the long term, the ministry has identified a site for a government health clinic in USJ1,” he said in a letter responding to Subang MP Wong Chen.

Wong had earlier sent out two letters to the health minister seeking clarification on the status of the sole 1Malaysia clinic in USJ.

The clinic, located at Pangsapuri Angsana, Persiaran Subang Mewah, opened its doors to the public in September 2012.

Established in 2010, the 1Malaysia clinics are named after the political slogan used by former prime minister Najib Razak, with the aim of providing affordable healthcare to the poor.

After the change of government last year, Putrajaya said the clinics would be rebranded as “Community Clinics”.
