CAMERON HIGHLANDS:
A commotion broke out when DAP supporters, with party adviser Lim Kit Siang, walked past a polling centre in Brinchang here.

Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS supporters shouted and accused Lim and his supporters of breaching laws under the Election Offences Act 1957.

The commotion was sparked when Lim and several supporters, including Batu MP S Prabakaran, who held party flags, were walking beyond the 50-metre restriction area and passing the polling centre, SJK (C) Brinchang.

“You cannot be close to the 50m boundary. You made the law and now you yourself are violating it.

“When we do it, you don’t allow us. But now that you do it, it is allowed,” said opposition supporters at the scene who urged Lim to leave the area.

Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Council member Armand Azha Abu Hanifah said Pakatan Harapan (PH), as part of the government, should respect the law instead of acting like it is still an opposition coalition.

“Are you the government or an opposition force now? If you are the government, you have to follow the law,” he said.

The group cleared out of the area after authorities took control of the situation 10 minutes later.

When met by reporters, Lim declined to comment.

“Wait and see the voting process,” the DAP veteran said before leaving in his car.

After 14 days of campaigning, a total of 31,639 voters in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency will exercise their right to choose a new MP.

In the by-election, voters will have to choose between M Manogaran of Pakatan Harapan, Ramli Mohd Nor of Barisan Nasional and two independent candidates — Wong Seng Yee and Sallehudin Ab Talib.
