Hadi angry because DAP rejected him as PM candidate, says Kit Siang

The DAP veteran claims the PAS president was eyeing the PM's post in the event of a Pakatan Rakyat victory six years ago.

PETALING JAYA:
Lim Kit Siang’s attacks on Umno and PAS continued today with the DAP veteran repeating his claim that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had approached the DAP leadership to pitch for the prime minister’s post before the 13th general election.

But Lim said DAP, who was then part of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition with PAS and PKR, refused to replace Anwar Ibrahim as the prime ministerial candidate with Hadi.

He said it was this rejection that caused PAS to regard DAP an enemy.

“The reason why Hadi and other PAS leaders are telling lies about the DAP being anti-Malay and anti-Islam is because DAP had refused to support Hadi as the prime ministerial candidate,” Lim said.

Lim added that it was a “blessing in disguise” that the coalition, which collapsed following DAP and PAS’ spat over the Islamic state, did not win the general election in 2013.

“It would have been most likely that the country would be plunged into a constitutional crisis if Hadi had announce his ‘kingmaker’ role and swung the support of the PAS MPs to prop Najib to continue as prime minister,” he said.
