
However, he assured that the increase would not burden the people as incentives will be given to low-income families in the B40 category as well as those who implement water saving measures.
He said the matter was being discussed with Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd, and that the amount of increase had not been set as each state has different rates.
“We have had to buy some water (from other states) and management costs have increased. There is also the cost of infrastructure for a new dam.
“These are some of our challenges (if the current water tariff rate is maintained). If we cannot manage the water problem, there will be a water crisis,” he told reporters after the monthly gathering of the state government at Seri Negeri here.
