Pensiangan PKR chief Raymond Ahuar said Rural Development Minister Ewon Benedick, who is an Upko vice-president, should not have involved Nabawan assemblyman Bobbey Suan in a programme organised by the council of churches.
Ewon was scheduled to launch the event.
“I am taken aback by the programme in Nabawan town (on Jan 5) that was launched by Ewon who invited Suan as a guest of honour and to deliver a speech.
“Everyone knows Suan’s position in the political landscape,” Ahuar said in a statement.
He also questioned the absence of other political leaders representing the state government.
“Any event that involves government officers should also involve leaders from all parties such as Upko, PKR, DAP and Warisan to realise the concept of cooperation and solidarity if Benedick is truly sincere in his struggle as a full minister in the government.”
Suan, a former Upko vice-president, had sent his resignation letter in July last year. The party only accepted his decision in November.
Unlike other Upko elected representatives, Suan did not pledge support for the Warisan-Pakatan Harapan ruling alliance.
“Benedick should not have involved an opposition leader in a programme also attended by his permanent secretary and the Nabawan District Officer.
“Benedick’s action clearly shows he is disrespectful towards leaders from other parties within the government,” he said.
He said there was something fishy with the whole affair, adding that Benedick seemed to be in cahoots with the opposition in Nabawan.
