ALOR SETAR:
The Kedah government says it will look into assistance for the family of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who died yesterday from injuries sustained during a riot in Subang Jaya last month.

Kedah Health, Rural Development, Religion and State Government-Linked Companies Committee chairman Ismail Salleh said for now, the state government would provide assistance for funeral expenses.

“Preparations for the burial ceremony are being done completely by the Fire and Rescue Department,” he told reporters at Adib’s family home in Kampung Tebengau, Kuala Kedah today.

“The state government will look into other needs.”

Ismail advised the people not to speculate about the tragedy by playing up religious or racial sentiments, saying the matter should be left in the hands of the authorities.

“We should learn from this incident and never take the law into our own hands,” he added.

Adib was assaulted by a mob near the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27. He had been part of an operation to extinguish a fire in front of the temple.
