The people had filled Jalan Raja around 2.30pm after marching from checkpoints at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC), National Mosque, Masjid Jamek and Sogo.

The crowd began gathering at the four checkpoints as early as 7am.

Mostly clad in white, the protesters against the ratification of United Nations’ International Convention on The Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) spilled over to areas nearby.

Leaders from Umno, PAS and Perkasa are expected to give speeches soon.

Among those who have already arrived include former Prime Minister Najib Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor, opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Meanwhile, in spite of the advice by police and event organisers, numerous underage protesters were seen tagging along with the adults at the event.

In the hot weather, protesters were seen pushing strollers, carrying toddlers and walking with their children.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim had on Thursday urged parents to leave their children at home to avoid any unwanted incidents.

The rally has remained peaceful so far.
