Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said Yamani Hafez needed to be sworn in as an MP before he is disqualified.
“Several letters reminding him to take his oath of office were sent to him but there was no response. Now it is up to the Sipitang representative,” he said.
Ariff said Yamani had asked for oath-taking via video conferencing but this was rejected as there was no such provision, adding that he must be sworn in by mid-January.
Of the total 222 MPs, 220 took their oath of office in the Dewan Rakyat on the first day of the first meeting of the 14th parliamentary sitting.
The reason for the absence of Yamani, 39, who is the son of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, is still a mystery. His current whereabouts are unknown.
