KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and Amcorp Group Berhad executive chairman Azman Hashim have been appointed pro-chancellors of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for a three-year term ending 2021.
UMS vice-chancellor D Kamarudin D Mudin made the announcement at the UMS 20th convocation ceremony here today.
Shafie and Azman received their appointment letters from Sabah Yang di-Pertua Juhar Mahiruddin, who is also UMS chancellor, at the first session of the convocation ceremony.
In his speech congratulating the duo, Juhar expressed hope that the two leaders would steer the university to greater heights.
“Hopefully, the university will continue to succeed with their energy and resources,” he said.
More than 5,000 graduates will receive their diplomas, doctorates, masters and bachelors degrees during the convocation.
