Rafizi: No conflict with Azmin

Outgoing PKR vice-president says differences between party members are normal as they come from different backgrounds.

Rafizi Ramli and Azmin Ali patch up differences at the PKR National Congress today.
SHAH ALAM:
There is no conflict with Mohamed Azmin Ali, his challenger for the deputy president’s post, Rafizi Ramli, said today.

The outgoing vice-president said it was normal for political party members to have different views.

“People who support me come from a different background.

“People who support Azmin come from government departments. So, there are different directions in the party,” he said.

Rafizi said if these supporters were handled well and in an orderly fashion, the party will be in a healthy position.

Rafizi and Azmin embraced each other in front of delegates at the PKR National Congress here today. This came at the prompting of a Perlis PKR delegate to “stop fighting against each other” now that the party polls had concluded and Azmin had won.

Rafizi said this was done to calm down supporters from both sides.

“At the end of the day, we pledged our loyalty to Anwar (incoming party president Anwar Ibrahim) as the party president.

“We are different from Umno and PAS. The difference is that, when there are differences, they split.

“But in PKR, the party allows differences. These differences make the party more dynamic, with new ideas born. It is not as how the media has portrayed it,” he said.

“We are more vocal and we celebrate differences. These noises are normal. From day one, we have been noisy,” he said.

Asked whether he would accept any party posts, Rafizi said he would consider any offers.

“It should be clear that I never joined the party hoping for any positions. I joined the party because I believed that PKR can champion the people’s struggle,” he added.
