Speaking to FMT, the party’s election committee (JPP) chairman Rashid Din said hackers tried to install the app into the 10 tablets used in the voting process.
“Someone tried to install the app, four tablets were affected, so we lost four tablets. The app cleaned out the data in the tablets.”
Earlier, PKR’s candidate for deputy president Rafizi Ramli claimed the tablets used in Julau were infected with “Prey” which he said allowed hackers to control the tablets remotely.
Rashid said the Sarawak election committee has lodged a police report on the matter and that fresh polls for the Julau division would be held after the JPP reviews the affected votes.
“We will investigate how many votes disappeared.”
It is understood that “Prey” allows hackers to delete data and files remotely and manage thousands of devices at the same time.
