PETALING JAYA:
PPBM Supreme Council member A Kadir Jasin today shrugged off calls for him to be investigated under the Sedition Act for a recent blog post on the Kedah sultan.

The veteran newsman said PKR’s Johari Abdul was entitled to his opinion of the post on Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, published on Oct 30.

“It is up to YB Sungai Petani (Johari) to give his comments. If he is calling for an investigation (on me), it is up to him,” he told FMT today.

Johari had earlier urged authorities to probe Kadir for sedition over his blog post, saying it would lead many to make false assumptions about the ruler.

He told reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby that Kadir had insulted the sultan, questioning the former’s motives for doing so.

As a newsman, he said, Kadir should be familiar with the ethics of journalism.

“I am disappointed with what Kadir wrote. It has gone viral. So I urged the police to investigate him for sedition,” he said, adding that the blog post made it seem like the sultan had abused his position.

Johari, who is running for PKR vice-presidency, said his call for Kadir to be investigated did not go against Pakatan Harapan’s pledge to abolish the Sedition Act.

He also denied that it was because Kadir was from PPBM, saying he would urge authorities to investigate anyone, including PKR members, over such a posting.
