NGO unhappy Draft KL City Plan 2020 gazetted without public consultation

Selamatkan Kuala Lumpur says Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad has broken his promise to let it view the Draft KL City Plan 2020 before gazetting it.

PETALING JAYA: A civil society group has expressed disappointment over the gazettement of the Draft KL City Plan 2020 “without prior public engagement”.

Selamatkan Kuala Lumpur (SKL) deputy chairman M Ali said the Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad had agreed in July to engage with SKL and relevant stakeholders before gazetting the DKLCP 2020.

However, Ali said, the city plan had been gazetted without consulting SKL.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad told the Dewan Rakyat earlier today that DKLCP 2020 had been gazetted and that it would be on public display at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall on Jalan Raja from Nov 12.

“Because there was no time for public viewing, he (Khalid) promised us (SKL) earlier that he would allow us to view the plans before it was gazetted.”

But now, he said, it had been gazetted.

“We are extremely disappointed that a concerned segment of Kuala Lumpur’s residents have been misled by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government and we feel cheated,” said Ali when contacted.
