Nazri says no hidden agenda in actions against BN leaders over 1MDB

After praising Anwar Ibrahim, the BN secretary-general says he does not believe there is hidden motive in the prosecution of individuals over the 1MDB scandal.

BN secretary-general Nazri Aziz says Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad only wants to expose and find the misappropriated 1MDB funds.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Nazri Aziz today defended the series of actions against Umno leaders over the 1MDB scandal, saying Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was sincere in unravelling abuses in the state investment firm.

“Dr Mahathir only wants to expose and find the misappropriated 1MDB money,” the former tourism minister said.

“The prime minister only wants to find where the 1MDB funds have been channelled to. We can see for ourselves.”

He said there was no selective prosecution, saying individuals other than Umno and BN leaders were also hauled in by the authorities.

Former prime minister Najib Razak and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are among those arrested and charged with corruption offences, mostly to do with funds related to 1MDB, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

Nazri’s statement today is not the first time the Padang Rengas MP expressed support for current Pakatan Harapan leaders.

In the aftermath of the Port Dickson by-election, Nazri praised Anwar Ibrahim, saying the PKR chief was “easier to work with”.
