AMPANG:
Temperatures rose at the PKR election in Pandan after the voting centre opened its gates a little late this morning.

Voters, who had come as early as 9am, had to wait almost two hours for the voting centre at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council hall, Taman Chempaka, to open at 10.40am.

It was learnt that the polls were delayed due to the absence of Rela members to maintain security at the election centre.

A shouting match erupted after voters complained they had been waiting too long, pointing out that they had other errands to attend to.

Deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli, who arrived at 10am, also had to wait to cast his vote.

Meanwhile, technical problems resulted as PKR members in Ampang could only cast their votes at 10.50am.

Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is vying for the vice-president’s post, said there was a problem with the tablets used for the e-voting, but this was subsequently resolved.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), although it began a bit late, the situation was under control,” she told reporters outside the hall.

The third phase of voting in Selangor today sees six divisions, namely Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor, Ampang, Pandan, Shah Alam and Hulu Langat, casting their ballots.
