Kadir, who is a PPBM Supreme Council member, pointed out that making Anwar the country’s eight prime minister was something that had been agreed on even before the May 9 polls.
“It was discussed even when Umno was still in power back then,” the veteran newsman told FMT.
Under a deal by the four PH parties – PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM – Mahathir would step down as prime minister after two years in power and make way for Anwar.
Earlier today, Umno information chief Shamsul Anuar Nasarah claimed that PPBM is spreading rumours of more MPs quitting Umno to prevent Anwar from succeeding Mahathir, who is PPBM chairman.
Shamsul also said this was a reflection of PPBM’s insecurities after Anwar’s return to Parliament after his win in the recent Port Dickson by-election.
Shamsul said this in response to a report by Malaysiakini quoting the veteran newsman as saying that speculation of 40 MPs leaving Umno was rife.
Kadir had, in a separate report, said the 40 MPs had met top PPBM leaders to express their desire to leave the party.
