Emulate Abim, Syed Saddiq tells youth NGOs

Youth and sports minister says the 'progressive and moderate' Muslim NGO has remained relevant even after 47 years.

NILAI:
Youth NGOs have been urged to emulate Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim), which has not only been vocal in expressing the views of the young generation but has also managed to remain relevant since its formation 47 years ago.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Abim was among organisations that promoted and led an Islamic movement which was progressive and moderate.

Abim, he added, had also churned out many leaders who were respected in Malaysia.

“Abim received a five-star rating from the youth and sports ministry and we certainly want to show our appreciation by providing financial aid to the organisation.

“As a minister, I am responsible for giving whatever aid and at the same time ensuring the organisation sets an example for other youth NGOs,” he told the media after the Malaysian Voluntary Force Dinner here last night.

Syed Saddiq said Abim must always be on the front line and the main force in speaking up for the young generation despite the country’s ever-changing political landscape.
