Clean polls will ensure my victory, says Azmin

The PKR deputy president says the party must pay attention to public perception amid claims of money politics.

GOMBAK:
PKR’s Mohamed Azmin Ali has called for fair elections, as the second phase of party polls in Selangor begins today where members will also choose between him and Rafizi Ramli for the deputy president’s post.

He said PKR must pay attention to public perception as it has been championing reforms.

“We reject dirty politics, money politics or abuse of power,” he told reporters at the Gombak PKR division polling.

More than 83,000 party members at seven of the 22 divisions in the state are eligible to vote.

There have been complaints of “money politics” during party elections, where members vote using the e-voting system.

He said this is the first time the party was using the e-voting system.

Official results show Azmin, who is also the economic affairs minister, leading in Selangor in the first phase of the elections, although Rafizi claimed the upper hand in several other states.

Azmin said he hoped members in Gombak, considered his fort, would vote “based on the work of its leaders”.

“If the process is carried out in a just and fair manner, I am confident the members’ support can be translated into a big majority,” he said when asked about his chances of winning.

The seven divisions voting today are Puchong, Gombak, Petaling Jaya Utara, Petaling Jaya Selatan, Kuala Langat, Klang and Selayang.

Yesterday, Melaka PKR claimed to have detected at least one case of money politics during polling there.

State PKR chairman Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the case occurred at the Tangga Batu branch, adding that candidates handed out RM50 notes to members in exchange for their votes.
