The 29-year-old suspect, who was caught at a restaurant not far from the house, told the officers that he killed Faridah Mat Hashim, 63, by stabbing her in the neck with a knife in the kitchen following a heated argument.
Southwest district police chief A Anbalagan said the suspect claimed he was high on “petrol fumes” at the time.
He said a urine test conducted today showed no drug abuse. However, the suspect has a criminal record for violent crimes.

Anbalagan said the man had confessed to placing his mother’s body in a sewerage tank next to their house.
The suspect will be remanded at the Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The woman’s body was found by her son-in-law yesterday after he noticed a trail of blood. Police also recovered the knife used to murder her in the sewer.
Faridah had been reported missing for six days until the discovery of her body yesterday.
