PETALING JAYA:
Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali says there must be a review of certain “wasteful” government agencies to help strengthen the Bumiputera agenda.

In a talk show on RTM last night, Azmin said the government wanted to cut the funds spent on these agencies.

“This is a form of wastage that we have to review.

“In the past, when we had an initiative or idea, we would create an agency to execute the policy.

“When there are 10 ideas we want to implement, we will have 10 agencies on that,” he added.

He said he had begun noticing this when he served in Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s previous government in the 1990s.

“Our (government) funds may not reach the targeted groups because the money will be used on renovating offices or giving out allowances to officers. Such a practice has to stop,” he added.

Meanwhile, Azmin said Mahathir would be speaking at the Congress on the Future of Bumiputeras and the Nation in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

“He has agreed to stay after launching the congress and will have a dialogue session with stakeholders and businessmen,” he said, adding that Pakatan Harapan was committed to strengthening the Bumiputeras’ economic and social status.

The congress aims to look at improving policies to empower Bumiputeras and achieve greater progress.
