Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad says he is exercising his rights against being defamed.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said he would not withdraw his defamation suit against Gerakan Muslimah Malaysia chairman Wan Asshima Kamaruddin who had accused him and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa of organising the largest gay festival in the federal capital.

Khalid said Wan Asshima did not issue an apology over the statement and only apologised for tarnishing his name.

“I do not see it as a sincere apology, she shows no remorse for going overboard and without the facts. She is the one who is emotional but is saying that I am emotional, I am just exercising my rights when people defame me.

“The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government respects freedom of expression but those who want to speak out must act responsibly. If one issues statements to provoke others, the person must be prepared to face the consequences,” he said after attending the “Jalur Gemilang” (National Flag) handing over ceremony in conjunction with the National Day celebration at the Dang Wangi police station here today.

The NGO chairman had allegedly made the accusation in a video clip uploaded on her Facebook but took it down later.

Zulhazmi Shariff and Hisham Fauzi, the special function officers of the two ministers, lodged police reports at the Dang Wangi police station against Wan Asshima.
