He compared it to Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) decision to use the coalition’s logo, which will make its debut in the Sept 8 by-election.
“We are trying to unite the people. But MCA, (by using its own logo), is isolating itself by representing only one ethnic group.
“The people should not support a party that isolates itself. Instead, they should back one that represents all Malaysians,” he said when met at the nomination centre at the Hulu Langat District and Land Office here.
Lim, who is finance minister, also cautioned his party members against being over-confident in the Balakong by-election.
“We cannot assume that we will definitely win this election. Whether or not we win, let the final results be announced.
“Let God decide who will be the winner. We must still work hard and do our best,” he said.
When met later, MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong brushed aside Lim’s remarks, saying DAP was no different as it had used its own logo in previous elections.
“This is just psychological warfare on Lim’s part,” he said, adding that DAP’s actions did not match its words.
Instead, he said, the people should look at whether PH had succeeded in fulfilling its promises during its first 100 days in office.
“Last time, they said they would pay 20% royalty to oil-producing states. But now they say the oil royalty payment depends on what definition is used.”
The Balakong by-election will see a straight fight between DAP’s Wong Siew Ki, 32, and MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong, 40, who is a committee member of the party’s Serdang division.
The Chinese-majority state seat which has 61,219 constituents fell vacant after its DAP assemblyman Eddie Ng was killed in a car crash last month.
In the 14th general election, Ng obtained 41,768 votes while MCA’s Lim Chee Wah received 5,874 votes and PAS’ Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali got 6,230 votes.
