PETALING JAYA:
PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail tonight announced Halimey Abu Bakar as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate in the Seri Setia by-election.

The announcement was made at an event in Desa Mentari, here.

Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

At the same event, Wan Azizah also announced that PH’s official logo would be used for the first time in the Seri Setia by-election on Aug 8.

Halimey is a Seri Setia local boy and has been active in PKR since 1999 when the party was known as Parti Keadilan Nasional.

Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang named Dr Halimah Ali as the party’s candidate in the Seri Setia by-election.

The Seri Setia state seat in Selangor fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Shaharuddin Badaruddin from colon cancer.

Halimah, a medical doctor, is also a member of the party’s central committee and a former Selangor executive councillor.

Umno has said it would make way for PAS to contest in the Seri Setia by-election to return the favour after PAS did not contest in the Sungai Kandis by-election.

The Seri Setia and Balakong by-elections will be held simultaneously on Sept 8.

EC deputy chairman Othman Mahmood said the campaign period for both by-elections will stretch for 21 days. Nomination day will be on Aug 18.
