GEORGE TOWN:
The inquest into the death of Form Two student M Vasanthapiriya was postponed today after an inquest officer asked the Coroner’s Court to examine her written submissions on the case.

Inquest officer JG Kaameni however did not reveal the nature of her submissions. Lawyer V Parthipan, who is holding a watching brief, then said he had an oral submission to make.

Coroner Norsalha Hamzah told Parthipan to send a written submission as well, so that both could be deliberated.

Norsalha then set Aug 21 for the next inquest hearing.

Vasanthapiriya, a 13-year-old student of SMK Methodist Nibong Tebal, attempted to take her life on Jan 24 after being accused of stealing her teacher’s mobile phone.

She died after being in a coma for almost a week. An inquest was requested by the police given the immense public interest in the case.

Lawyer Parmjit Singh is holding a watching brief for the girl’s family while Parthipan is holding a watching brief for the teacher.
