Ex-Treasury sec-gen lodges MACC report over ‘missing’ GST refunds

Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah insists that the money is not missing, but in the consolidated fund.

PUTRAJAYA:
Former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today over the alleged loss of RM18 billion meant for goods and services tax (GST) refunds.

He was at the MACC headquarters for about two hours from 9.30am.

When he emerged from the building, Irwan told reporters he had lodged the report to find out the truth as he felt the allegation of the missing RM18 billion was unfounded.

Yesterday, he denied the claim made by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on Wednesday that there was a shortfall of RM18 billion from the RM19.4 billion meant for GST refunds to traders.

Irwan said he would also lodge a police report in the afternoon.

“The MACC gave its assurance that it will investigate the matter. The money did not go missing. It was placed in the consolidated fund,” he said, reiterating his statement yesterday.

When asked whether he had given any documents to MACC, Irwan said all the relevant documents were with the finance ministry.
