Teh Lai Heng (DAP-Komtar) said crows had been terrorising people in Pulau Tikus, Simpang Ampat and Nibong Tebal over the past year, forcing many to duck for cover in fear of further attacks.
“In the last three months alone, we have made so many reports to the local authorities that crows have attacked people.
“Sure, they (authorities) have been shooting into trees every end of the year, but nothing has worked.
“It is time for the local governments to find new ways to combat this crow menace. We need an urgent action plan throughout the year, not just at the end of the year,” he said in the debate of thanks to the governor today.
Teh said there were many animal-friendly ways besides shooting crows, which could be implemented by the local councils.
“In Western countries, animal activists have used intermittent loud noises to deter crows. So at least we can push them out of their roosting areas.
“But in the long-term, we need something to reduce their population, fast.”
