
Shaharuddin, 55, who died of colon cancer yesterday, leaves behind wife Adibah Ahmad and six children.
“We are sad to have lost Dr Shaharuddin, who was also a state executive councillor. We pray for the repose of his soul,” she said to reporters at the mosque.
Shaharuddin was the chairman of the Selangor Islamic Affairs, Education and Human Capital Development Committee.
Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Sungai Kandis state by-election, also paid his last respects to Shaharuddin at the mosque.
He described Shaharuddin as an intellectual and activist who had been deeply committed to his task.
“The late Shaharuddin had a clear vision for the development of the community in the state, given the wide knowledge that he had. He was also a good friend. His departure is a great loss for Selangor,” he said.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shaari, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin, PKR vice-president Tian Chua and Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki were among those who also paid their last respects to Shaharuddin.
Shaharuddin’s remains were brought from the family home in Desa Pinggiran Putra to the mosque for the funeral prayers before the burial at about 10am at the Kampung Limau Manis Muslim cemetery.
