PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak says DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has no right to say whether Islam or any other religion is a form of kleptocracy.

“Enough is enough, Kit Siang. Stop playing up religious issues or vilifying religions, especially Islam, for your own political desire,” Najib said in a Facebook post as their spat on religion and kleptocracy continues.

He was responding to a proposal by the DAP supremo for a public debate on “Islam is not kleptocracy”.

Najib said he found Lim’s proposal for a debate odd as the latter had earlier said those who linked Islam to kleptocracy should apologise.

The war of words between Lim and Najib was sparked after Lim, who is the Iskandar Puteri MP, posted a statement with the title “Sungai Kandis by-election a crucial test whether Najib has succeeded in equating Islam with kleptocracy in Malaysia” on his blog on Saturday.

Najib said Lim had crossed the line for suggesting that a Barisan Nasional (BN) victory in Sungai Kandis would amount to equating Islam with kleptocracy.

Lim denied Najib’s allegation, labelling it a “wild, false and unfounded claim”.

Today, Najib said it was better for Lim to focus on the unfulfilled pledges made in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto and give the people a reasonable explanation as to why they should not feel cheated.

“Kit Siang should organise a debate titled ‘The Pakatan Harapan government and their promises’ or ‘Have the rakyat been duped by the Pakatan Manifesto’.”
