“If the party still wants me to continue holding the post in the federal government as the DPM, of which the party can table such a motion, I will do so,” she told PKR members here.
Anwar, who has been PKR’s de facto leader from the start, recently announced he was going for the party presidency, more than two months after being granted a royal pardon allowing him to return to active politics.
Wan Azizah today thanked Sabah PKR leaders and members who expressed support for Anwar to become the president.
“Let’s show an example that as a party, we are responsible and that we don’t fight with each other for positions,” she said.
Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said there was no need for any motion for Wan Azizah to keep her current position as DPM.
“The consensus made by Pakatan Harapan in its convention on Jan 6 this year was that Dr Mahathir Mohamad was to be the prime minister, Wan Azizah the DPM and Anwar to assume the PM’s post later on.
“This means, Wan Azizah is the DPM because of that consensus … the issue of a motion does not arise at all,” he told reporters.
Saifuddin said Anwar’s candidacy for the top party post has nothing to do with government posts.
“Being the president, Anwar doesn’t have the locus standi to hold any post in government. He has to contest to become an MP later but we have yet to reach that stage.
“That is why, during that period, Wan Azizah will remain as DPM, which is in line with PH’s consensus,” he said.
