“It was in his nature to serve anyone in need of help,” said Lee Khai Ming, 40, a member of the National DAP Action Unit, of which Ng was also a member.
Speaking to reporters when met at the Serdang Hospital, Lee said that during the floods that struck the east coast in 2014, Ng was among the first volunteers to arrive in Gua Musang, Kelantan, and stayed in the state for three days to provide assistance to the victims.
“After those three days, he returned to Kuala Lumpur and managed to fill up two container loads of essential items and went back to Kelantan to help flood victims for another six weeks … such was his dedication,” Lee added.
Ng, 40, died on the spot due to severe head injuries when the Nissan X-Trail he was driving crashed into the rear of a lorry at Km11.6 of the Grand Saga Highway at 12.30am.
He was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kajang.
Meanwhile, Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said he was sad that he had lost a great friend who was committed to his cause.
Sze Han said the Selangor DAP would meet to set up a committee to assist Ng’s family and make arrangements for his remains to be buried at the Xiao En cemetery in Cheras.
In the 14th general election, Ng won 41,768 votes, retaining the seat for the second term after defeating Lim Chin Wah from BN and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali (PAS) with a majority of 35,538 votes.
Meanwhile, Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) is ready for its second by-election in three months this year in Balakong.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the PH leadership would submit a notice of the vacancy to the Election Commission soon.
“In politics, we have to be prepared, including for the possibility of things which are beyond our control.
“We have just lost a people’s representative (Sungai Kandis state assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei) and that by-election is not yet over, but we have to face it again.
“However, let Ng’s death be handled first before we officially declare the seat’s vacancy to the EC,” he told reporters after attending a community programme at the Sungai Kandis hall here today.
In a separate development, Amirudin confirmed that he would be contesting in the PKR elections next month but had not decided on which post he would contesting for.
“It will not be one of the top five posts. For now, I will focus on Gombak as the deputy branch head, and my priority is Selangor. I want to give the best service to the people of the state as the menteri besar,” he said.
