KUALA LUMPUR:
The controversial Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 will be gazetted this year, PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil revealed today.

The Lembah Pantai MP said this was according to a written reply by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.

Fahmi said he and other MPs from the capital would be meeting Kuala Lumpur mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz to form a consultative council to discuss the plan.

Khalid in his written reply had said the Pakatan Harapan government would take full responsibility for gazetting the plan even though there were a few years left before 2020.

Khalid said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would be updating its data from 2016 to 2018 before the plan could be gazetted.

“The KL Plan 2020 will be reviewed so that the KL Structure Plan 2040 can also be gazetted,” he said.

The KL Structure Plan was gazetted in 2004 but the more detailed version – the draft KL City Plan 2020, launched in 2008, which received feedback and consultation from the public — has yet to be gazetted.

In the past, Kuala Lumpur MPs raised concerns over the failure to gazette the plan, saying this could cause the city to become the most unplanned and congested urban centre in the world.

However, last year, DBKL said it was pointless to gazette it as it was due to expire by 2020. It said it would instead look at the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2050.
