Johari said he decided to do so after taking into consideration the stability of the party, following its big win in the 14th general election (GE14).
“Yes, I am contesting. Last term, I was a central committee chairman. My task then was to make sure the party runs smoothly.
“So now, since GE14 has concluded, I have decided to contest for the post of vice-president to further drive the ‘reformasi’ movement,” he told reporters today.
Johari said even though Pakatan Harapan (PH) had taken over Putrajaya, he remained firm in his mission to continue pushing for reforms, as touted by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
“When you mention ‘reformasi’, it does not mean that after GE14 is over we no longer need to push for the agenda. There is much more that needs to be carried out.
“God willing, if I become vice-president, the ‘reformasi’ agenda will be continued until we feel that Malaysia has reached a point that we can be proud of.”
Johari has voiced his support for Anwar to contest the party president’s post, but he has refused to name a suitable candidate to be the party’s deputy president.
“There may be two or three people who will contest the post. I will have other choices which I will announce later.
“But the president must be Anwar,” he added.
