“This is a new political landscape. If we have common issues, we will discuss. Sometimes we may differ in opinion where we will agree to disagree,” Annuar told reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby.
Today is the first day of the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Annuar said Umno and PAS co-chaired a pre-council meeting with MCA and MIC on July 15.
The Ketereh MP said Umno’s stand was to support any political party, including PPBM, if they needed the support of the opposition.
“We cannot support or object because we are the opposition. We will support the government when their decisions are right and be the voice of the people when they are wrong.”
He also said although Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was the opposition leader, former prime minister Najib Razak had the right to speak.
Najib has been defending some of the decisions made by the former government such as the high-speed rail between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, the LRT 3 project and the size of the national debt.
Annuar also said the government had to walk the talk on abolishing the goods and services tax (GST) and implementing the sales and services tax (SST).
“They want to restore the SST. The main concern is which system gives the best to the rakyat.”
He added that there was no point bickering over which system was better as the reality would be known after the SST is implemented on Sept 1.
“The rakyat can then be the judge as to which system is better,” Annuar added.
