KUALA LUMPUR:
Several senators who were sworn in at the Dewan Negara today are on their way to the palace where it is believed that some of them will be sworn in as ministers and deputy ministers.

So far, Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong, Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy and Terengganu Amanah chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah have confirmed that they are on their way to Istana Negara for a swearing-in ceremony.

They are among eight individuals who were earlier sworn in as senators at the Dewan Negara.

Waythamoorthy said he felt more comfortable working for the present government than he had under the previous administration.

Speaking to reporters at the Dewan Negara lobby, he said he left Barisan Nasional in 2013 as he felt it had failed to keep its word.

“I feel much more confident with the Pakatan Harapan government, that they will resolve the long-standing issues involving the marginalised Indian community as well as other marginalised communities,” he said.

He added that he had held lengthy talks with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had been supportive and understood the predicament of such groups.

Raja Kamarul meanwhile said he would look into local issues in Terengganu so that the state would not be left out.

Penang PPBM chairman Marzuki Yahya, forensic accountant Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Ismail Ibrahim were also chosen to be senators.

The other two were Hussain Awang from the Terengganu state assembly and Asmak Husin from the Kelantan state assembly.
