He said this was the decision of the PH presidential council after PKR’s “eye” logo was used by all four components in helping the pact to win the general election on May 9.
“The PKR logo is recognised in the constituency.
“For three terms in a row, we won using the logo and this approach appears to be a winnable one,” he said after an event at the Masjid Jamek Al-Amaniah here today.
The Election Commission (EC) has set the by-election to be held on Aug 4, with nominations on July 21. Sungai Kandis was previously called Sri Muda.
The by-election was called following the death of elected representative Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR on July 2.
PH had resorted to using the PKR logo in the general election after it encountered difficulty in being registered with the RoS. The pact’s registration was eventually approved by RoS on May 18, after GE14.
Umno, on the other hand, may abandon its Barisan Nasional scales logo for this by-election.
Bernama reported that Selangor Umno had decided to use the party logo instead.
Selangor Umno deputy chairman Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said the decision was reached at a meeting chaired by chairman Noh Omar.
On the PKR elections next month, Amirudin, who is the party’s state rep for Sungai Tua, said he had not decided on whether he would run for a key position.
The state PKR chief’s post is currently held by his predecessor, Azmin Ali, who is now the economic affairs minister.
“I will make a decision after discussing with my friends,” he said.
Asked about the High Court ruling that the Selangor Islamic Department (JAIS) had no right to bring charges against Ahmadiah followers for violating a state fatwa against the sect’s teachings, Amirudin said he needed to get JAIS’ feedback on the matter.
He said he believed that JAIS would find the best way forward to ensure Islam’s sanctity and purity were protected.
